Moroccan Stew

This moroccan stew is a wonderful warm winter meal that is guaranteed to satisfy. healthy, easy to make and tastes incredible. What more can you ask for?


I was at a moroccan cooking class this past weekend, and I was introduced to  moroccan stew. I felt it lacked in flavor a bit, so I tweaked it somewhat, to the recipe you see below you. Feel free to mix it up to match your taste buds. Just a warning- I tend to like hot foods, so the amount of chili flakes I put in might be too much for some of you. Half the amount of chili flakes  if you feel that you can't handle heat- but don't skip it entirely, part of the beauty of this dish is that it has that kick that makes morroccan food so pungent and flavorful.
Also- don't skimp on the last item- the sour cream and chutney adds a dimension to this dish that I thought it was lacking (one of my personal additions) - and it is low enough in calories that a bit of "bad- for- you" wont hurt you!


Morroccan Stew

Ingredients (Makes 8 servings)

1 cup, diced Celery
1.5 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions, diced
3 tsp Becel Regular

1/2  tbsp Curry Powder
2 tsp Cinnamon, Ground
0.5 tsp Pepper, Black
1 tbsp Tumeric
3 cloves minced garlic

2 cup  canned drained Chickpeas
2 cup Diced Tomatoes,
1 cup Lentils, raw
4-5  cup Organic Vegetable Broth
Salt to taste

1 c chopped cilantro
1/3 cup lemon zest

1/2 cup Light Sour Cream
4 tbsp Mango Chutney


1. In large pot, saute onions and celery in becel until clear.
2. add in spices and saute for 3 minutes until aeromatic.
3. add chick peas, tomatoes, lentils and veggie broth.  simmer just below boiling until lentils are soft (about 35 minutes)
4. reserve some cilantro for garnish, and add the rest into the pot with the lemon zest. salt to taste.
5. Mix together the sour cream and the mango chutney. set aside in fridge
6. dish up the stew, add a nice tablespoon of the sour cream mixture on top of the stew and garnish with cilantro.
